Dark Matter Market FAQ
Short, direct answers to the questions people ask most about Dark Matter Market — getting in, accounts and 2FA, escrow and payments, vendors, and this site. Each answer links to the page that covers the topic in full.
About Dark Matter Market
What is Dark Matter Market?
A darknet marketplace that runs only as a Tor onion service, online since 2024. Vendors sell in two catalogues, Physical and Digital; buyers pay in Monero and choose between escrow, multisig and — with vendors at level 15 and above — early finalization. The counter in the market's footer shows about 126,000 registered users. The full overview is on the homepage.
Is Dark Matter Market legit or a scam?
It is an operating market with visible moderation: staff remove FE from vendors with unresolved orders, set deadlines and ban them publicly, with the reason posted in the market's News. That doesn't make it risk-free — any market can exit scam — so use escrow and keep your balance small. See the Bionik case for how a ban was handled.
Does Dark Matter have a clearnet website or an app?
No. Dark Matter exists only as a Tor onion service. Any .com, .net or similar site, and any "Dark Matter app", is fake — and if it asks you to sign in, it is phishing.
Is darkmatter.market the market itself?
No. darkmatter.market is an independent information resource: it publishes the verified links and guides, has no login and never asks for your market credentials. More on the About page.
Access and Links
How do I open Dark Matter Market?
Install Tor Browser from torproject.org, copy a link from Mirrors and paste it into the address bar. The full walkthrough with screenshots is in How to Access Dark Matter Market.
Where do I find the current Dark Matter link?
On the Mirrors page — the only page on this site where the addresses are kept up to date. All three links open the same market and the same account.
How can I tell whether a Dark Matter link is fake?
Compare all 56 characters with the list on Mirrors, or paste the link into the Link Checker. A matching "darkmat" beginning proves nothing — phishing addresses are generated with the same prefix.
Dark Matter won't load. Is it down?
Check Status first. If the links are shown as online, the problem is usually on your side — the checklist there covers testing Tor, bridges, a new circuit and error codes.
Do I need a VPN or Tails?
Neither is required: Tor Browser already hides your IP address from the market. Tails adds a system that forgets everything at shutdown; a VPN before Tor hides Tor use from your provider but adds another party that sees your traffic, and Tor bridges do the same job for free. See the Tails guide and VPN and Tor.
Account and Security
How do I register on Dark Matter?
The sign-up form asks for a username you log in with (case sensitive), a separate public display name, a password, a PIN code and a personal phrase, followed by an "I am a human" check. Step by step: registration guide.
What is the personal phrase for?
It is included in every 2FA message the market sends you. When you decrypt a sign-in message, check that your phrase is there — if it isn't, you are not on the real market.
What is the PIN code?
A second secret you set at registration, separate from your password. Make it different from the password and don't store the two together.
How do I turn on 2FA?
Create a PGP key on your own device, add the public key to your account, test that you can decrypt a message, then enable 2FA. Key creation is on PGP Key Generator; the account side is in the 2FA guide.
I lost my PGP key or password. Can I get my account back?
With 2FA on, you need your private key to sign in, so restore it from your backup. Whether the market can recover an account without it is up to its staff — which is why backups come before enabling 2FA.
Why was I logged out?
On the sign-in page you choose when your session expires, for example after 30 minutes. When that time passes, you have to sign in again.
Buying and Payments
What currency does Dark Matter use?
Payments are made in Monero (XMR). Listings show prices in regular currencies such as USD or CAD. How to get Monero is covered in the Monero guide.
What is the difference between Escrow, MultiSig and FE?
With escrow the market holds your payment until you confirm delivery; with multisig the payment is locked so that two of three parties must agree to release it; with FE it goes to the vendor before the order arrives. A side-by-side table is on the homepage.
What is FE and who can offer it?
Finalize Early — the vendor is paid before delivery. On Dark Matter only vendors at level 15 or above can offer it. If an FE order never arrives, there is nothing left in escrow to refund.
What if my order doesn't arrive?
Don't finalize. Open a dispute while the payment is still in escrow, and leave an honest review. Reviews and report tickets are what led staff to act against a vendor in the Bionik case. Details: disputes guide.
Should I keep money on my market balance?
Only what the current order needs. Anything left on a market can be lost if the market goes down for good; withdraw the rest to a wallet you control — see the wallet guide.
Vendors
How do I become a vendor on Dark Matter?
Vendor accounts are applied for inside the market, which sets its own terms. The vendor guide explains how vendor accounts and levels work.
How do vendor levels matter to buyers?
Levels decide what a vendor may offer — FE, for example, is only allowed from level 15. A high level reflects history, not a guarantee: the vendor in the Bionik case had FE before losing it.
